Katchafire are a New Zealand roots reggae band from Hamilton.
Katchafire formed in 2000 as a Bob Marley tribute band and developed into New Zealand's hardest working reggae band paying all of the classics as well as writing and performing their own songs. They have released four albums: Revival (2003) which featured the highest-selling New Zealand single of 2002 "Giddy Up"; Slow Burning (2005) Say What You're Thinking (2007) and On the Road Again 2010.
The band has toured Australia, the UK, Europe, the USA, New Caledonia and Brazil and have played alongside most of the greats including The Wailers, The Marleys, Steele Pulse, Third World, UB40, Shaggy,Lauren Hill, Fiji, Horace Andy and many more.
Katchafire released their fourth studio album, On The Road Again, which has been inspired by their recent worldwide touring.
Band members
The band's original line-up consisted of Jerry (lead vocals, lead guitar), Thompson Hohepa (lead vocals), Hani Totorewa (keyboards, vocals), Tere Ngarua (bass), Logan Bell (percussion, backing vocals), Jordan Bell (drums). Due to work and Schooling commitments Tere Ngarua was replaced by Travis Te Hau, and Hani Totorewa was replaced by James Ferguson
As a result of commitments with other bands, family and religion, lead singer Jerry and Bass player Travis Te Hau leave Katchafire and the band reform as a five-piece reggae covers band with Logan stepping up as the bands new lead singer along with Thompson Hohepa taking over on guitar and lead vocals, Jordan Bell on drums, John Kennedy on Bass(later replaced by Shane Maraki),James Ferguson on vocals, Keyboards,Sax and guitar all under the management of Grenville Bell....2001, 2002.
The addition of Ara Adams Tamatea on Bass/band management and Leon Davey on percussion/BVs and reunion with the now qualified high school teacher Hani Totorewa on keyboards allowed Grenville Bell to step out of the management role and into his present role as lead guitarist and the brand "Katchafire Enterprise LTD" was realized. For the next 6 years the boys earned the label of "hardest working band in New Zealand gigging Thursday through Saturday 49 weeks of the year....winning best selling single of 2002, 3 top Urban Video awards and worldwide critical acclaim on the way. 2001-2007
Ara steps down from his role as Manager/ bass player, original bass player Tere Ngarua returns and Logan takes over the band management and leadership. 2007-present day
The current lineup consists of Logan Bell - Band Management, Lead vocals, rhythm guitar. Jordan Bell - Drums. Grenville Bell - Lead guitar. Tere Ngarua - bass. Hani Totorewa - Keyboards, vocals. James Ferguson - Keyboards, Sax, vocals. Leon Davey - Percussion, vocals.

Formada en 1997 como banda tributo a Bob Marley. La banda toma su nombre del disco de Bob Marley «Catch a Fire». Poco despues empezarona escribir y tocar canciones propias. Hasta ahora han lanzado 3 discos: «Revival» (2003) con su single «Giddy Up»; «Slow Burning» (2005) y «Say What You’re Thinking» (2007).
La banda ha realizado giras por Australia, el Reino Unido, Europa y EEUU. Ha compartido el escenario en festivales internacionales con artistas como Mr Gang, Horace Andy, Moonraisers, Gentleman, y son los unicos artistas del pacífico que han hecho giras con artistas comoArrested Development, The Wailers, Maxi Priest y UB40 como parte del 2008 Raggamuffin.
